Golfing Nova Scotia — Days 3 and 4

Today was the third in a row of our “driving days”, as differentiated by our “camping days”, which will begin tomorrow, as we will remain camped here at the Broad Cove Campground in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park for the next three nights.  The drive from Caribou NS was uneventful and we arrived here about 4:30PM.  This is essentially an RV parking lot in a field, although we here have the luxury of full hook-ups (water, electricity and sewer) and a pull-through campsite — so essentially, we can live here in the Little Guy just as we would in an apartment (albeit a very small apartment, on wheels). Incidentally, the internet is so bad here that I cannot load photos, so for tonight (at least, until I get somewhere else) only text!

Pal Steve has a zoom meeting tomorrow afternoon (which I question whether he can accomplish from here), so no golf tomorrow, but our hope is to take a couple of short hikes nearby in the morning. While Steve is zooming, I will go back south into Ingonish and get more propane (the furnace runs all night and is burning through it) as well as try to replace the missing mirror. UPDATE: Steve discovered that the Ingonish Public Library offers internet service, so he parked there for his afternoon meeting. I went looking for propane and a new side-mirror extender today (failed on both counts) and finished my afternoon here in the same library; I tried adding photos to this post and updating it while the internet is available, but failed here as well.

Further update: Above are a couple of views of the Broad Cove Campground in Cape Breton Island National Park. In addition to RV and tent sites, this campground also offers these yurt-type shelters, sort of sturdy-walled tents:

There is only one golf course on this side of the Cabot Trail, and we have a tee time there Friday afternoon. So that’s the plan for now! I will edit this post with photos when and if I get better internet. And if it doesn’t improve, I will probably wait to post again until we leave here and head to the west side of the Island — so don’t be concerned if you don’t see more posts for a few days; I will be sure to post more text if something goes wrong, so no news will be good news until the internet situation improves!

Still Further Update: Today, before the library visit, we climbed up Broad Cove Mountain in Ingonish, a relatively short hike but with a few steep sections, the worst of which were traversed over staircases; the entire hike took us less than ninety minutes. Took some lovely photos but, again, they won’t post in Ingonish. Will try again on the other side of the Island! Thanks for following!

Yet another update: We are now on our last day in Inverness, still on CBI, at an RV campground with a lovely beach. There is very slow Wi-Fi here and so I will add photos below of Broad Cove Mountain, etc. Look for updates of the subsequent post as well, and then I will post a golf-oriented entry where you can get some idea of the fabulous courses we played.

The long mountain you can see behind me in the photo above is called Middle Head, which we hiked the next day before golfing at Highland Links. This proved to be an exceptionally scenic hike:

Again, please check the other Nova Scotia posts for updates as it appears that the internet here is working well enough that I can add photos to them. I hope you like the pictures!
