Woodford State Park, VT

Golf pal Steve and I are in the midst of the summer’s first golf trip, this week to Woodford State Park in extreme southwestern Vermont. This is a nice park hewn out of the Green Mountain National Forest, with widely spaced and secluded campsites in three discrete loops, each with a modern bathhouse and an abundance of signs warning of bears in the park. On the basis of this information, we have latched the front and back windows of the Little Guy each evening on the theory that, if we were bears, those would be the windows we would choose for ingress. However, as of this writing, no bears have yet to show their furry faces.

Yesterday we played a fine golf course in Brattleboro, the Brattleboro Country Club, an interesting and challenging course about twenty miles from here. Although we were disappointed in the lack of the expected mountain views, it was nonetheless a worthy course which we would visit again. That morning, I carelessly mishandled my medications in such a way that I took the evening blood pressure pill first thing, thus doubling-up the dose from last night. I paid the price for this lapse in attention on the ninth fairway, when after walking half the round in 90-degree heat, my blood pressure crashed to the point that I could barely stand up. Fortunately, pal Steve went and hired a golf cart for us to play the back nine, so we were able to finish the round. Below are some photos of the course:

We ate dinner in the quaint old restaurant next to the pro shop (reminiscent of the Sedgley Place near my home), where we were served by a delightful Bosnian girl, currently attending UConn (my alma mater, although she is on the Hartford campus) and majoring in financial analysis.

Today we play at the Mount Snow course, where I hope to shoot a lower score given my careful attention to the meds situation this morning. I will attempt to report on this experience very soon.
