Today was another travel day, taking us from Bayside in New Brunswick (just across the Maine border from Calais, Maine) to the Pictou area on the south side of the Minas Basin, or roughly half the way across Nova Scotia to Cape Breton Island. When will you read of golf, you ask? Soon, as our destination tomorrow is Ingonish on Cape Breton Island, home of numerous outstanding golf courses. But first we have to get there!
Tonight’s campsite is in the Caribou-Munroe Island Provincial Park, analogous to a Maine state park, and in fact is very reminiscent of Maine’s Cobscook Bay state park. When we arrived at our campsite, a ruffed grouse was on hand to make us welcome. Cheeky as he is, the picnic table was no obstacle to him in his search for a handout.

This park has a very nice beach and would doubtless be very popular in midsummer’s heat. The campsites are small and wooded, organized in three loops; one such loop, Loop C, is currently closed due to damage from the recent hurricane Lee.

We had one minor setback today, as the mirror extender on the passenger side of the truck came loose and blew off on Nova Scotia’s Highway 6. We stopped and went back for it, but found it missing the glass. I will look for an auto parts store tomorrow and try to find a replacement. It was not at all expensive, but it did prove valuable when changing lanes, so I would prefer not doing without it.
Incidentally, we are seriously enjoying the furnace in the Little Guy, as the night-time temperatures are dropping into the low 40s. This would not be a pleasant trip in a tent, for sure! More tomorrow from Ingonish and Cape Breton Island if all goes well!
